It is impossible to think outside the “box.” Our thoughts are limited to our experiences, our experiences are VERY limited in this universe. We can only see a tiny fraction of electromagnetic radiation, for example.

True — you make valid points. Still, I think that trying to “think outside the box” (even though that phrase is really cliche) is still useful. I mean, you can definitely do things that make it more likely that you’ll come up with innovative ideas.

For example, you can spend less time looking at LOLcats and more time letting your mind wander and think of possible solutions to problems you are trying to solve.
