I Googled hoping to find out why this was happening. This baffled me and after reading here it dawned on me that oh yeah, I am on their network (just visiting friends). Thanks for the info!

Another option is Google Public DNS
http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/

Configure your network settings to use the IP addresses
8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
as your DNS servers

who runs opendns.org ?
Is it the motd group?
Is a company behind it, and how is it funded ?

I did notice it a month ago in Washington State. I have Bing as my default search provider but now and then this annoying spam Comcast page appears. I had nothing agains Comcast but this is pisses me off. I lost all trust to them in regards to my privacy or customer respect. I was told by the rep that it is opt-out feature, will try to disable it somehow.

I've noticed these address re-directions sporadically, but gave it little notice. It was probably some internet browser setting (like the default search engine). I checked and the default was Google. After finding this article, I searched comcast.com and disabled the "Domain Helper". No more problem. That's just one more reason to be cautious of Comcast.

I found this article interesting because I ran into a problem with a new website that we created won't come up when you type the url in the search bar. Apparently many people use the search bar like an address bar. Go figure. You learn something everyday.
I don't know if anyone else has run into this problem but if the site is new Comcast.net does not get that information until Google releases it to them.

Easiest thing to do here is go in your router or your network card settings and force the use of a different DNS server. The best performer, IMHO is opendns.org. Its free as well. Their DNS forwarders are

208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

Using them allows you to have full control of what DNS provides you, not the ISP who seems to have forgotten their job. Provide you a connection to the 'net for a fee. That's all.

You can opt-out of the Comcast hijacking service by clicking the "Disable this error service" link on the hijacked page.

Don't forget to restart your router if you use one.

With our Internet Guide from Dyn Inc., you can disable the NXDOMAIN redirection. Plus, if you feel like blocking certain sites, you can do that too: http://dyn.com/internetguide

What was the issue with the Comcast toolbar? Why couldn't visitors see your website?

If you need help changing your default search provider in IE, you should look at Spybot or CCleaner -- both are excellent programs that I install right away on any new Windows PC.
